DD AirBags Interview with Bianca Martin - World’s Youngest Female BMX Backflip
DD: You just stomped your first ever backflip and from what we can find on the internet, you are the worlds youngest female to pull it off. How does that feel?
BIANCA: GREAT, AMAZING, so happy to stomp it, I want to do more of them!
DD: How long have you been riding Freestyle BMX for and when did you start riding skatepark? From what we have heard, it has not been long.
BIANCA: We had a look at some photos and Dad said he bought my BMX in February 2021, but I was riding my scooter before that because I got that at Christmas.
DD: When did you first try your first backflip and did you think you would get it done so soon from your first attempt into a foam pit?
BIANCA: I sent it to a foam pit at my friend’s farm in March, but I crashed a few times, then I got one done when I went to Brisbane at an indoor park and tried to do one to resi but that didn’t go well HA HA! OOH then I got some time at the HOTBOX, it was crazy I saw Logan Martin riding! I did a no hand one. Maybe did 10 or 15 while I was there.
DD: You stomped it first try to the airbag, perfect. Rolling into that hill to send it, what were you thinking and what were your nerves like?
BIANCA: Just do it! Just do it! Remember it from the foam! I was a bit scared but happy and just wanted to send it and get it done. I can do this.
DD: Last year we had the first ever BMX Freestyle in the Olympics. How do you feel knowing that one day you could possibly be there to represent your country?
BIANCA: Nervous but really excited… um that would be CRAZY. MIND BLOWN haha! Hope so.. one day maybe.
DD: Last month you travelled over east to ride your first ever major contest in Australia in which you placed 1st. Can you tell us a little bit about this experience and getting to surround yourself by the best in the world and getting to meet all your heroes and idols?
BIANCA: It was my best trip ever! My first was just… (loss for words).
DD: Who is your favorite BMX rider and why does this person stand out to you among the rest?
BIANCA: Wow.. that’s hard! My favorite would be CAIDENBMX. Why? Because he has so much fun and he inspired me to ride BMX the first time, and that little kid can do big tricks.
DD: What are you BMX plans for the rest of 2022?
BIANCA: I want to dial my tailwhips in and backflip to concrete and get better, travel, and have fun. Oh and Woodward.. can we go Dad?
