Meet Chiaki: The 6-Year-Old Prodigy Shaping the Future of Action Sports.

In the world of action sports, talent often knows no age limits. Among the ranks of remarkable athletes, there's a new rising star who is defying expectations and rewriting the rulebook at just six years old with tricks like backflip barpsins, flairs and 360 triple barspins. Meet Chiaki, the youngest member of Team DD and undoubtedly the future face of BMX.

Chiaki’s journey into the world of action sports began almost as soon as he could walk. From the very start, his parents noticed an unquenchable thirst for adventure and a remarkable knack for mastering various physical activities. It wasn't long before his talent caught the attention of industry insiders and paved the way for his recent attention.

We recently had the opportunity to ask Chiaki and his supportive parents some questions, who helped provide insights into the mind of this remarkable young athlete with a big future ahead of him.

At what age did you begin your BMX journey, and what inspired your passion for it?

He Started at age 3. He first attended a bmx school , then watched Shoa on TV and wanted to improve.

Being the youngest rider to successfully land a flair and numerous other big tricks is remarkable. How does a six-year-old, accomplishing such significant feats, conquer the fear that comes with attempting new and intimidating tricks?

He Overcame his fear and with the desire to grow more than now

What aspirations, dreams and goals do you hold for your future in the realm of BMX?
His dream is to become a world champion who people think is cool and join the Red Bull team.

Who are you biggest influences in bmx and what is the next big trick you would like to learn?

His favorite player who influences him is Logan Martin and the next trick he wants is a backflip double barspin.

Do you have any additional insights or reflections you'd like to share regarding your experiences and progress in the world of BMX so far?

Instead of riding in one park, he's growing up riding and talking with different people in different parks. I think that's very important. From now on he wants to go to different countries and ride with different people!

We have had some customers recently asking us which airbag would be most suitable for them so we recently did a blog post on our top youth airbags explaining each one and the feedback we had was great so we thought we would do another, this time on our other favourite airbags on the list.

Pro Next Step: Our Inflatable Pro Airbag Landing is designed for all riders who feel comfortable hitting bigger ramps between 5-6 ft height as well as the perfect airbag lander for a show team looking for a fast set up and something that takes up minimal space for travel. This was built to be that perfect box jump landing that you love at the local skatepark (advanced or pro riders as you can make the perfect take off that suits your needs). Having trouble deciding on which Youth Airbag is best for you? We have decided to give a little overview on some of our favourite Youth airbags starting with the Youth Next Step, Youth Next Step Plus, Junior Next Step and Grom Next Step.

Youth Next Step - Though this is called the Youth NextStep Airbag Lander, this is just as much for adults as it is for the kids. At 5 ft height you can use any ramp between 3-5 ft height and is a really fun inflatable airbag to session and play around with some smaller tricks. This airbag stores away very easily and takes only a matter of 10 minutes to set up and 10 minutes to pack up.

Youth Next Step Plus - Going 1 up from the regular Youth is the Youth Next Step Plus Airbag Lander. This airbag is close to the regular Youth but with even more safety with an extra 1.5 ft width, barriers to prevent falling off the sides and an extended runout, this provides the ultimate safe haven for any rider, youth or adult. This gives any rider the confidence to learn safer.

Junior Next Step: The Junior NextStep Airbag is a downsize from the regular Youth NextStep for the young groms that have just started to take flight at a perfect height of 3.5 ft height. This is an ideal sized airbag for any young bmx or mtb rider that wants to start learning tricks safer as well as for any young rider starting to feel comfortable hitting real ramps.

Grom Next Step - At DD we want to cater to absolutely every rider possible. The GROM Flat AirBag is aimed towards any young rider that is just learning on a bike or scooter and is ready to get two wheels off the ground. Helping the youth in action sports with bag jumps for all sizes.

DD: You just stomped your first ever backflip and from what we can find on the internet, you are the worlds youngest female to pull it off. How does that feel?

BIANCA: GREAT, AMAZING, so happy to stomp it, I want to do more of them!

DD: How long have you been riding Freestyle BMX for and when did you start riding skatepark? From what we have heard, it has not been long. 

BIANCA: We had a look at some photos and Dad said he bought my BMX in February 2021, but I was riding my scooter before that because I got that at Christmas.

DD: When did you first try your first backflip and did you think you would get it done so soon from your first attempt into a foam pit?

BIANCA: I sent it to a foam pit at my friend’s farm in March, but I crashed a few times, then I got one done when I went to Brisbane at an indoor park and tried to do one to resi but that didn’t go well HA HA! OOH then I got some time at the HOTBOX, it was crazy I saw Logan Martin riding! I did a no hand one. Maybe did 10 or 15 while I was there.

DD: You stomped it first try to the airbag, perfect. Rolling into that hill to send it, what were you thinking and what were your nerves like?

BIANCA: Just do it! Just do it! Remember it from the foam! I was a bit scared but happy and just wanted to send it and get it done. I can do this.

DD: Last year we had the first ever BMX Freestyle in the Olympics. How do you feel knowing that one day you could possibly be there to represent your country?

BIANCA: Nervous but really excited… um that would be CRAZY. MIND BLOWN haha! Hope so.. one day maybe.

DD: Last month you travelled over east to ride your first ever major contest in Australia in which you placed 1st. Can you tell us a little bit about this experience and getting to surround yourself by the best in the world and getting to meet all your heroes and idols?

BIANCA: It was my best trip ever! My first was just… (loss for words).

DD: Who is your favorite BMX rider and why does this person stand out to you among the rest?

BIANCA: Wow.. that’s hard! My favorite would be CAIDENBMX. Why? Because he has so much fun and he inspired me to ride BMX the first time, and that little kid can do big tricks.

DD: What are you BMX plans for the rest of 2022?

BIANCA: I want to dial my tailwhips in and backflip to concrete and get better, travel, and have fun. Oh and Woodward.. can we go Dad?

DD: How old are you and at what age did you start riding BMX?

SHOA: I'm 12 years old now! I started BMX at the age of seven.

DD: How did you get into BMX riding?

SHOA: Watching the Kaden "Dubby" Stone video on YouTube made me want to try it too.

DD: Who are your top 3 influences in the action sports?

SHOA: 1st: Rim Nakamura🇯🇵 2nd: Mizogaki Joji🇯🇵 3rd: Kevin Peraza🇲🇽

DD: The first ever BMX Olympics were in Japan this year, how does this make you feel? Do you have future goals of going to represent your country when you get older?

SHOA: The Olympics looked great to me, but it's a passing point. Now I will do my best toward that passing point.

DD: What is your favorite thing about riding BMX?

SHOA: It's when new tricks work, but at the same time it's nice to make friends all over the world.

DD: How do you overcome the fear of learning new tricks?

SHOA: It's about believing in yourself. After that, if there is a DDAIRBAGS at the landing point, you do not have to be afraid of anything.

DD: What are your future goals in BMX?

SHOA: I want to make many friends all over the world. All you need to do is stay on BMX as you grow older.

DD: Do you have any future plans on heading to the USA and if so what are they? What are some of the thing you want to do and ride when you make the trip?

SHOA: I always want to go to America. Of course I want to go to Australia and England. The purpose is to ride with different people and ride in different parks.
